Confession automobile thread

I confess I am debating replacing the 4:10s in my car with something more stock 3:27. I admit 140kmh is easy to get to but 3000 rpm is deafening me!

Does this have anything to do with your recent expedition in the mud?

110km/h = 1600RPM because .50 overdrive on 6th :D

3000 is hard on gaz !!!

I wouldnt complain about the gas, its a 4000 lbs ex cop car with a v8. I know what I am getting myself into. Mustang is decent on gas but the that 5th gear and 3:xx gears really let it idle on the highway.

The dumped vic at 117 KMH is at 2600 RPM with my current setup. No bueno

So why you want to lower the RPM on cruise ?

3000rpm @120 in the Cayman, 2900rpm @120 in the S4, 3000rpm @ 120 in the R32.

Dat 9L/100km highway life

Back when I had my E36, I would do 3800rpm @ 120 lol

Yep, puis mon MX6 1997 V6 aussi à 3800 RPM @ 120. Ce petit V6 de 2.5L étais rev happy

I'm around 5500rpm @ 120 in one car and most of my 4age equipped cars were around 4000-4500 @ 120.

I can see how the drone of a v8 at 3000rpm would be annoying though.

crime, 5500 @ 120, ca dois pas aller ben plus haut que 160kmh.

Malgré que je comprends, ces petits chars là ca avance pas, faut un gearing court pour avoir du fun

9000rpm redline so not quite 160 but yeah you're not far off.

Still though, 250hp, ~2000lbs. Not so bad, but it's not for the highway that's for sure.

Most of my 16v 4 cyl VWS, VR6s reved like crazy but with a v8 I want to work to the advantages of what it is (ie Torque down low).
It is a sohc 4.6 so it doesn't have the rpm range a twin cam has. I am just playing with it while the mustang is going under the knife. The plan is gears/diff and Maaco it up a la Marauder style on the cheap. Most of the parts are either free or cheap shit.
My Foxbody is ridiculous at 120 I am somewhere around 1500 rpm, I have to downshift to spin back into the powerband. But I am reworking the mix when I do the brake upgrades to something more acceptable like a 3:55 that way with my 5th it will be streetable. At this point in 4th I haven't hit redline at 175kmh ( one time in Mexico a la GPS)

You should swap diff between the Fox & the CVPI lol

At most 3:55 for the fox too much gear is no fun.

My buddys 1972 Chevelle is running a 630hp big block, 4 speed and 4:10s useless on the highway but it will wrinkle the radials quite happily. But 100kmh= 3000 RPM...no Bueno

Must be nice and relaxing cruising at 1500rpm though.

My first car, 1988 Corolla GT-S had insanely long gears. It would do ~115 in 2nd, 205 in 4th. 190 in 5th because no torque (@ Rob_SeR)

If I remember correctly, in those years of the fox body, it came with a 2:73 or 3:27.
I had the 2:73, didn't know about it. Threw on some cheater slicks, and just bog at 5000 rpm launch. Changed it to 3:73. The car grabbed and go.
So if you are putzing around 1600 @ 120. With a T5, sounds like 2:73.
Or just Jack the car and count the turns of the drive shaft versus the tire.
