It's actually pretty similar to Montreal, at least in my area. I live in the equivalent of Montreal Downtown/Griffintown/Old Port. Downtown here isn't very upscale though, it looks like downtown architecture-wise with the old banks and stuff but the people are more like who you'd see in the Plateau around Avenue Mont-Royal if you know what I mean. I go to an Under Armour gym called that's in an old bank, it's really cool. They turned the vault into a lounge area.
According to the 2010 Census, Baltimore's population is 63.7% Black, 29.6% White, 2.3% Asian, and 0.4%, American Indian and Alaska Native (Wikipedia).
Stuff that happened in The Wire is in West Baltimore though, that neighborhood is very dangerous.
There are plenty of venues for going out and most of them keep the terraces open. There were a couple 20+ C days this year already. Price-wise it's roughly the same as Montreal only in USD, which surprised me. Happy-hour pints are $5 USD on average in Fells Point (Old Port).
When it's cold (0 to 5 C during the day) my area is really empty. At the same time, the Inner Harbor really comes alive when it's warm outside, let's say 15+ C.
Baltimore isn't very big, it's only 500k people. Washington D.C. is only one hour away by car (downtown to downtown), there's also Philadelphia nearby so the general metro area is very big. I don't have a car yet but I'm looking forward to exploring the surrounding areas once I get one.
I haven't gone out much yet because I was busy with setting up my stuff after my relocation, but there are a lot of free museums and such to go to. It's still a bit cold, 10 to 12 C during the day. It's very dry though. You get used to the warmer weather quickly, my day-to-day clothes are a lot lighter than what I'd wear in Montreal in the winter.
There are also a lot of live music venues in my area. A week ago there was some sort of outdoor EDM concert 5 minutes away, it sounded like Redlite downstairs, they had a show on Saturday morning as well
There's a big income discrepancy here, the population is pretty young. A lot of professionals in their 30's but there are also a lot of people who - I'm not exactly sure what they do, you know.
