A/C Refill

What's the standard price for a refill of freon on a Civic? Does pretty much any mechanic do it? 25 years of owning cars and I've never actually ever done a refill, at least not that I remember.

First : year of the car. If your car is too old, it might need a retrofit to R134a freon

Second : go to a specialised place if you can. And not all garage can do it, as it requires a special permit.

Third : do not EVER use those cheaps cans yo ucan get at carquest or Canadian tire

Fourth : ask for a full checkup. These system are supposed to be fully sealed, if it's empty, then the system is leaking

1- 2009 Civic

2-Thanks.

3-Thanks again, yes wouldn't think that would be a good fix.

4- It cools but takes a really long time and doesn't feel cold enough (up to 10 minutes) as opposed to our 2016 car for example, especially at then of the day after work when it's 30C outside.

If it cools I wouldn't worry just yet. It will take a longer time to cool the car with the extreme temperatures and humidity we've had the past 2-3 weeks. The hotter and humid the outside air is the longer it will take to cool it. By the end of the day the cabin is stifling and probably over 50C inside and everything is boiling hot. Try opening the doors and windows to vent out as much hot air as possible. Then drive with the windows open for a minute. That should drop the cabin temperature a lot. After that, open the AC. What I would do is get someone to turn on the AC to max while you stand in front of the car, listen and look to make sure all your cooling fans are turning on. If they aren't this will cause poor cooling.

2009, should come with r134a freon, so no retrofit needed.

And get it checked, the system leaking to be empty, or the compressor not running correctly

Care to elaborate? I've been using those for decades when the refrigerant (inevitably) loses pressure. Never had any issues. Used one on the Subaru at mid-May, still going strong.

Parce que ça scrap les machines à vacuum que les mécaniciens utilisent pour diagnostiquer les systèmes de AC
