Hello MR,
Long story short, I drove to Manchester NH for the weekend and my car broke down.
Car is now at the local garage and they think I need a new engine.
Problem : while on the highway, I get a check engine light and a loud continuous clapping noise from the engine.
I was able to drive until the next exit and decided to get towed so I dont get stuck on the highway. I added oil and same noise.
Car worth about 8000$ (BMW 535xi 2008 M package, 215 000km).
New engine cost about 3 000$ according to ebay. (not sure how much they will charge for labor)
Ship it back here cost about 500$ according to Shiply.
Rent a Uhaul truck and trailer would cost me over 1000$ because of the kms.
If I decide to leave the car there and sell it as is, not sure how this works and I dont think ill get much for it.
I think the best would be to get it fixed and drive it back. But if it cost too much it wont be worth it.
Or ship it back here and fix it here?
Anything I am missing here? Suggestions? Any help will be appreciated. Merci MR
