Currently in Germany on vacation.. will be providing updates as the week's go on.

Arrived this am to FRA and after a major a rental car fuck up at Sixt we finally hit the road about an hour late. Drove up to Cologe managed to hit 200kph, lots of traffic and construction.

1st stop was Motorworld and Schumachers collection. Fantastic display of F1 cars and cars in general. Admission is free

We are currently about 10 mins away from the ring. The weather is pretty crappy but will be in this area for 3 days.

Originally an M140i or similar... Then Sixt said I couldn't do a one way rental on that model. We always rent from Sixt and I'm one car away from Platnum. So I asked for a 118i or GTi. It was noted in my file

I try to check in using the app and can't select a car... So we head over to the counter

Arrive at the counter and sure enough they have a 118i 5dr M pack, stick(180hp). Perfect, hand over my CC and info. The clerk turns around and tells me "oh sir you have a free upgrade" I'm thinking it's a 5er or something like that which I was on the fence on.. No. It's a Peugeot 5008 SUV. I refuse and stick with the 1er as no GTis. Then she says oh I'm sorry this car is blocked for FRA station drop off only... So I ask for another upgrade , ok no problem upgrade to 4er cabrio.. €300 euro more. I tell her that's nuts and unacceptable, I do not want to drive an SUV on small tight roads or a Cabrio in 5c weather.

However customer service in Germany is crap on the best of days. She goes and sees her manager, manager comes and days "I can offer you an Astra Premium (downgrade), we will discount it and waive the extra driver" I ask again any other options , I can even go into town to pick up the car .. he says and I shit you not l

1. Take the Peugeot (they did have a 2er minivan coming in in an hour)
2. Pay 300€ on top of the 408€ I'm already paying for the 4er
3. Take the Astra
4. Nothing


By now I'm bummed out, my gf just wants to leave and I don't have time to be arguing to statues that aren't going to budge.

I took the Astra and left. To add insult to injury they double charged my card 950€...

IMO I know what happened. They needed one of those two cars back at MUC station and stuck me with it. Oh well the Astra drives better than mine at home.

Was at the ring for a couple of hours today. New R8 ate it pretty hard and the track was closed for about 45 mins.. lots of awesome cars!

Managed to top the Astra out at 226kph today going to Bitburg this am

Today we drove down to Stuttgart to check out the Porsche Musuem. What should have been a 3 hour or so drive ended up being almost 6. Outside Frankfurt we got stuck for 2hours at a standstill in a traffic jam. Some big rig had flipped over in a construction zone

We followed the rules and pulled over to allow a corridor between the other lanes of traffic. Once we go rolling again it was a mix of construction zones and general traffic. The amount of truck traffic is nuts, they all go 80 and you can get stuck behind a convoy of them all trying to pass.

Once we arrived in Stuttgart it was straight to the Porsche Platz as we were checking I to our AirBnb around 6.

Lunch at the Musuem is a must!

The 919 was the real deal.. not a show car. Why? They brought it back down to the garage and fired it up along with the 917....

Wow.. a bottle of wine for less than 1l of gas.

To be fair, I guess it only took a year to make the wine and millions of years to make the gas.

Gas is about 1.50-1.66€ here. I filled up the Astra today for 70€... 500ml bottles or cans of beer are sound 60c to 1.5€ depending on what you want . What gets you is the "pfand" deposit on bottles .25-.50 a bottle.
