IMO 80% of members on this board probably couldn't cut it physically to be a letter carrier.
I did the job for 11 years and loved every minute of it but that's because I have this weird personality where if my body doesn't feel destroyed after a day of work, I'm not satisfied. That being said, it takes a different kind of mind set when you work during winter. It's literally shit, my last route I was walking 13-20kms a day (fitbit) and I have screenshots of it to back it up.
I'm still with the company but not as a letter carrier, and one of the reasons I stopped doing it was because of my union. They are honestly incompetent toxic scum. One hilarious example is during the federal election, they were sucking the NDPs dick and telling all of the members to vote for them. It's no wonder the Liberals are not backing them. Management is no angel either but the real problem lies between CUPW and it's hate for management. If I had my way, Canada Post workers should not have the right to strike just based on it's a essential service to the public.
I voted no against a strike mandate and I refuse to picket. I actually donate my union dues to charity lol I got a lot of slack over that but honestly I don't care.
Meanwhile with CP, the company is absolutely terrible when it comes to health and safety. The employee turn over rate is unreal, their logistic methods are unrealistic and it's no wonder the work accidents are through the roof.
Also yearly raises have been below the inflation rate since 2007-2011 or something like that.
If both parties sat down, worked on that this problem it would have been solved months ago, now the Liberal government looks like they saved Xmas.
