hi everyone, well looks like i'll be looking for another car. I came across these ads at a dealership. the 2011 taurus (3.5 v6) or the 2015 (2.5 4cyl) fusion. both are in my price range.
Wanted to get some input on these cars as i've never owned a ford (unless you count volvo :)) haha
i'm looking for:

Reliability
Safety
enough room for 4 people (will be used on the occasional long road trips)
easy to work on.

I like the taurus for it's size, seems roomy and comfy. I don't know much about the mechanical side. spark plugs look like a biatch to do (the rears)
the fusion, i've always heard in the past, are good cars. is it comfy, roomy? engine good?
thanks
fab

I'm sorry to report that I've only ever had bad Fords in the past and It's a brand I'll probably avoid in the future.

Also, my sister has a 2011 Escape and it's a piece of garbage - but it's a paid for piece of garbage.

On the other hand a friend of mine has a 2014 Fusion and a 2014 Fiesta and has had no issues so maybe their cars have improved.

Another friend has a 2018 Edge but since it's brand new it's not supposed to have any issues he's only had it for about a month.

ElPibe has a Ford - not sure how he feels about it but it's nice. No idea if it's reliable though.

The Taurus is a large car as far as external dimensions are considered. Then you open the door, get in and realize it's not as roomy inside as you would think. Thick door pillars, large console, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Fusion was just as if not roomier inside by some metrics.

"Passenger volume inside the Fusion is 102.8 cubic feet, while the Taurus delivers 102.2 cubic feet of passenger room."

The Taurus is going out of production next year and I for one won't miss it. At all.

I'd get the newer, mechanically simpler car (I4 vs V6)

Thanks for the info guys. I’ll take a look at both and see. Coming grom sn older toyota camry, not sure how they stack up on reliability???

All I can say is, don't buy a fucking gm. Get the taurus AWD model, or the fusion AWD. I remember a friend who had the fusion with the V6 and AWD and he never had a problem, and plowed through the snow like a tank.

My pops still drives his 2009 fusion v6 awd that he bought new. I have no experience driving the taurus but i do know the interior is cramped for such a big car.

I'm driving a 2011 fusion FWD with the 4 cyl. Racking up 40,000km per year with no issues... The only thing we putted is oil, tires and 1 set of brake in the last 120,000 km... it is now at 245,000Km and still running strong.

Good on gas, average of 8L/100 km mostly highway (cruise control at 125 km/h). For sure it's not an enthusiast car but for a std commute it's pretty solid. plenty of room for 4 adults and the trunk is deeper than Alice's rabbit hole...

Cheers!

This.

I'm 6ft/200lbs and not so comfy in a Taurus. I feel cramped.

Honestly I didnt think people actually bought those. Rental companies have Fusions and Taurus. Man are they boring.

If I had to choose I'd go with the Fusion as well I think.

Is there a reputable garage to fix a Ford Fusion ( maybe transmission problems) in Montreal or Ford dealer is better ?
