An afternoon in the UK at Brooklands with Gregster

Final Trip of 2018.

We spent the afternoon at The Brooklands Musuem which is at the old Brooklands Track in Weybridge, UK. It's automotive, motorbike and aviation related. The London bus Musuem is also on site which is very interesting as well Afterwards it was a short walk next door to Mercedes Benz World. Entry into Brooklands Musuem is £12 and well worth it. Mercedes is free unless you wish to drive a car on the one of the several test tracks they have.

We landed at LHR T2 at around 6:30am. No rental car issues this time. 2 mins at the Hertz counter and we were off in our brand new Skoda Fabia 1.0L FSI, more on that at a later time. Luckily our hotel just outside of London had a room ready for us at had us checked in by 8am. The nap was much needed

Brooklands is a fabulous Experience. All exhibits are well presented and the volunteers on hand are very knowledgeable. I quite liked the manly man talk with the old timers. This place drips in the golden age of aviation and motorsport. What remains of the old banking is walkable and you start to get the sense of just how big the drivers balls were..

The aviation section is dripping in history as well.

This is what's left of the banking. Seeing the DB5 driving up was the icing on the cake. Bonus Defender as well

Now it was off next door to Mercedes Benz. The self tour starts up on the 5th floor and winds its way down, similar to the Musuem in Stuttgart. Lots of F1 stuff on display and the best it's all free! You can even try out some very nice F1 simulators , buy a new car or have an affordable lunch as we did.

Made our way out to Bath today. Stopped off at Williams in Grove! Castle Combe. This is the country side so lots and lots of Land Rovers.

Got a flat tire on the Fabia.. pinched the ONLY jagged rock on the road while on a small road as another car was passing by. Hertz has deducted £65 from my Visa for it. Not horrible. We are back in London tomorrow. Will prob spend the rest of the week there. No car needed, driving in Central London is foolish! So far about £60 in fuel, averaging around 50-55mpg mixed driving. The 3cyl 1.0 in the Skoda is a gem, feels like a diesel, sips fuel like one too.

That being said.. the older diesels have really vanished from the roads here. Lots of Jeep Renegades around, lots of new Renault's around. I saw a new Peugeot 508
driving today with French tags... Beautiful car.
