Why are there no small awd cars anymore?

Golf Sportwagen
Mazda 3 2019
Toyota Corolla 2020 (dispo en AWD)

these are interesting choices. massive bonus for the Golf which gets to keep its MT with AWD. I don't know if the Corolla and Mazda3 will get that luxury; might get stuck with the slusher if you want AWD.

you didn't mention anything about a budget because that would be a main factor here

well, he said they're frugal and didn't want to spend on a 3er X-drive or IS AWD.

Tbh it might end up stretching to an IS. Gonna shop irl tmr. Its not easy to choose amongst the cheaper offerings when everything is just over weight blobs of bleh.

This is why I drive older cars.

I'm not sure about the current gen, but I do recall that AWD IS'es had a humongous transmission tunnel that interfered with the amount of room available for the driver's feet. If so, sounds like a shitty compromise.

If you've got Lexus IS money, I'd just get an awd compact crossover and call it a day. It doesn't sound like driving enjoyment is a priority and body style doesn't sound like a valid reason to stretch the budget.

A 2.0T crossover wipes the floor with a 2.0l n/a impreza as far as fun is concerned.

The footwell in that IS has more than enough room lol. We aren't fat americans. Crossover just seems like a terrible compromise. The driving feel and economy reflects the fact that you are driving an oversized car. It's kind of excessive in size and price over the base car for not much gain. It's also extremely embarrassing to be seen in a crossover (Coming from a guy who drives a a fully riced EF by choice)

I have a 3/4 ton 6 seater, and a flatbed, so the only practicality we need is a nice clean 4 door 4 seater car. We are going to do the rounds of the Japanese dealers, maybe VW, and look at all the options... Would need a good warranty plug and special offer to consider BMW or Mercedes, although I am impressed with the reliability of my friend's 2011 auto 335xi.

FYI I lived with an IS250 last winter.

There is very little trunk space and the rear seats didn't fold down. The hump in the floor as mentioned isn't very noticeable but the seating position and layout of everything feels very cramped. Comfortable yes in terms of seats but I could never comfortable in the car.

It will run forever on minimal maintence though

I had the same is250 Greg is talking about for a few days, very comfy and I did not notice the hump in the floor as he mentioned. Has no guts whats so ever, but overall, a good daily commuter

Not everyone wants to drive a 30 year old Civic EF where if you crash or get crashed into it's certain injury or death. Life is worth more than 500$

I find this comment odd coming from an avid cyclist who rides the streets of Montreal on a bicycle. I'd rather take my chances in a Pontiac Firefly.

Car makers sell what makes them money in any said market. Fact of life, small cars don't sell in North America. Yea Quebec might be an exception but they aren't going to bring specific cars to one tiny market. I also hate to break it to you but new cars weigh as much as those SUVs.. they are all car based. The weight doesn't change all that much. They all seem to be in the 3200-3500lbs range.

Fully agree with the above statement, but just to tweek you a bit: Swiss-market exclusive, E110 Toyota Corolla AWD...

Subaru Impreza 2018 hatch= 175.6inch
Volvo V60 2018= 182.5

La suby tu as quoi 150 hp?

all cars that wouldn't sell today in North America and actually most of these didn't even sell well when they were released

The 6000 STE AWD was actually good value for what you got for low 20s USD. Considering an Audi 100/200 was mid 30s to 40k USD, E30 325xi 32k USD.

However the jump from low to mid range 6000 to STE was nuts. They sold around 2000-2500 AWD models. Then like now, people bought the S-10 Blazer or Jimmy..
