Why are there no small awd cars anymore?

- Be us, frugal, hard working couple
- GF wants to buy brand new car (keep forever)
- 20 minute rural commute through fields
- AWD would be nice
- 4 doors a must
- Japanese would be optimal
- Still not sure if we can trust Subaru

An AWD Fit, Yaris, Corolla, or Civic would be nice, but noOoOoOo. "Buy our overweight crossovers you fucking plebs!"

Is this really all that is available? She really doesn't want to splurge on 3 series or an IS, money is better used elsewhere. Buying new is a must, unless someone knows of a car sitting in a bubble somewhere.

Car makers sell what makes them money in any said market. Fact of life, small cars don't sell in North America. Yea Quebec might be an exception but they aren't going to bring specific cars to one tiny market. I also hate to break it to you but new cars weigh as much as those SUVs.. they are all car based. The weight doesn't change all that much. They all seem to be in the 3200-3500lbs range

As much as MR hates Subaru's the Impreza is the best choice. Isn't the new Mazda 3 going to have AWD as an option?

Not everyone wants to drive a 30 year old Civic EF where if you crash or get crashed into it's certain injury or death. Life is worth more than 500$

If you’re driving through fields, and or living somewhere out of town that there are fields to begin with, a vehicle with higher ground clearance helps, especially if the roads haven’t been plowed yet.

2019 Mazda 3 will have AWD.
My wife has a Crosstrek, great little city runabout except that the seats in the 2017 models are terrible. Don’t know about the current one.

Look at the Toyota HRV, it’s basically a tall car, similar to a Matrix in concept.

IIRC, there’s an e-awd Corolla is coming in 2020.

Can we trust Subaru? Will it explode? Or does it just require special attention?

Golf Sportwagen
Subaru Impreza
Audi A3
BMW 1 séries
Merc CLA
Mazda 3 2019
Toyota Corolla 2020 (dispo en AWD)
Etc
