The funny part is no matter where you put an airport people will bitch. Building a modern facility at Mirabel would be 8-12 billion dollaredoos and that's just for the terminals. Add another 1-1.5billion for a rail link.... 13 extension cost...On a déjà commencé a utiliser un peu plus St-Hubert.
I was really proud of Mirabel and pissed it got shut down. The funny part is no matter where you put an airport people will bitch. The costs up up quickly. Now suddenly keeping Dorval makes sense. Besides it's 15 mins from my house
YMX was outdated the minute it opened. The terminal that was torn down would have had to be replaced. It never worked because you couldn't get there and it was cheaper to keep YUL open.. it's not like much was going on in MTL during those years. The legend claims property owners lobbied to keep YUL open as a sudden influx of land on the market would devalue their holdingsI was really proud of Mirabel and pissed it got shut down.
But I must admit today YUL is very nice and efficient, I really can't complain anymore... Well the arrivals stuff sucks IMO but the whole registration, security and gates are top notch.

I like YUL, it's Very GVAish in the sense that it's a short walk off the plane and it the front doors. Customs can be a shit show but it's a given now
I have been quite surprised lately with the wait times at the customs. It was very quick everytime.
