I think it's a trick on the 67%. That is for both the top and the bottom. Half a deviation from the mean gives 30.9% to the extreme of the curve so it would be a bit above that. I'd say 174 but don't trust me.

Pr (Z <_ ((x - 182) / (20)) = 0.77.

0.44 deviation from the mean will exclude the bottom (or top) 33% of the sample. 182-(0.44*20) =173.2 but significant figures would mean a rounded number not a decimal and you need to have at least 173.2 so 174... you know that answer I gave about 8 hours ago

This would be the exact same graphic, but with the barred area (0.17) juste before the 0 (average) mark, hence you substract the value from 182 instead of adding to it ? Because the Z value is under the average that makes it negative ?

I think it makes sense.

The x axis is arbitrary. If you wanted you could say that the left most value was a perfect test score and the right most is the lowest score.

You subtract because you want to remove the lowest 33% or the group. The left half is the top 50% and the 0.17 is the remaining 17% that makes the cut. If you added to 182 you find the mark that you'd need to be in the top 33%.

Small note, the graph is badly drawn. The 0.44 deviation shouldn't be that far out, should be closer to the center but it gets the point across.
