Pretty sure the fans just want to be entertained and have something to look forward to. Under MB, outside of Radulov for 1 year, Montreal is completely void of skill development. Prospect nurturing and player development under the current regime has been a disaster. MB was hired in May of 2012. Let's review the fate of the last 10 years of first round picks for this organization.
1st round pick Louis Leblanc traded in 2014 for a 5th round pick.
1st round pick Jarred Tinordi traded in 2016 for John Scott.
1st round pick Nathan Beaulieu traded in 2017 for a 3rd round pick.
1st round pick Alex Galchenyuk traded in 2018 for Max Domi.
1st round pick Michael McCarron permanent AHL fixture.
1st round pick Nikita Scherbak placed on waivers in 2018.
1st round pick Noah Juulsen 2 seasons in the NHL, 44 games played.
1st round pick Mikhail Sergachev traded in 2017 for Jonathan Drouin.
1st round pick Ryan Poehling 1 game played in the NHL.
1st round pick Jesperi Kotkaniemi 1 season in the NHL, 79 games played.
So those are the 1st round picks going back 10 years. How do you think MB has done in terms of identifying talent, developing that talent, and getting value back for talent that didn't work out?
Moving onwards with the development of players under MB.
Positive development: Brendan Gallagher, Paul Byron, Phillip Danault, Jesperi Kotkaniemi
Poor development: Nathan Beaulieu, Jiri Sekac, Sven Andrighetto, Jarred Tinordi, Alex Galchenyuk, Michael McCarron, Nikita Scherbak, Daniel Carr, Greg Pateryn, Charles Hudon, Byron Froese
Stagnant development: Jacob De La Rose, Michael Bournival, Noah Juulsen, Artturi Lehkonen, Jonathan Drouin, Victor Mete.
Looking at this picture do you think MB has done a good job? The above has ZERO to do with taxes, or city politics, or weather, or language. You can only build a team one of two ways: drafting and development or via trades and free agency. I honestly don't know how you look at this picture and can honestly tell us that the fan base hasn't been patient and expects immediate results.
