Lime Scooter in Montreal good or bad idea?

So maybe someone can shed some light on this, but if you're Lime for example what does the presentation to the city of Montreal look like? What's the use case that would make any major city agree to deploy these things? Aren't they direct competitors for the bus? How do you show incremental people traffic because these scooters are now available for mass use? Even from a tax revenue side, I don't understand why cities are agreeing to deploy these.... what quality of life need or benefit does this actually bring to the population?

They probably present it as an extension of existing public transit.

Get off the metro, grab a scooter and "ride" the last mile to your destination (vs walking or waiting for a bus)

Encouraging public transit by enhancing/reducing delays in the door to door experience? "Maximum" benefit to the users at "no cost" to the city?

I rode them in SLC. As a novelty it was neat. The helmet requirement makes it a harder sell for tourists / impromptu ride (good thing I had my mtb/helmet!)

In a single payer / public funded health care system it might be a significant burden if/when enough people get injured / brain themselves riding like idiots / drunk. People are people. This is why we can't have nice things.

Used it in Lisbon Lyon, Sao Paulo, Rio, etc.

Always very positive experience, can't wait to have it in Montreal

I don't consider scooters or even ride sharing bikes to be proper public transit. It's it's a transit option. Public transit is something everything can use (elderly, physically empaired etc) at an affordable fixed rate. Would you have have a mass of 50-70 scooters on the road or a single double decker bus?

What many of these tech bros forget is that it's winter 5 months a year here. So it's just a novelty for the most part. Come winter months the numbers spike on STM.

It's still enjoyable 6 months a year, but yes, STM needs to keep getting better. The problem is that at 30 cents a minute, my gasoline scooter is cheaper

Or if going a short distance just walk or ride a bike. When I go to IGA near me I either walk or bike. It's bad enough those Jump cycles are clogging up the landscape next will be scooters. Then there is the entire legality of using them on bike paths. Under the CSR they are not permitted , same with electric mopeds

So far those jump don't bother me, and they look neat.

how fast do they go? @ $18/hr on an electric scooter, or @ $0/hr by foot, I think I prefer to walk even if it's slower. That's more than half my salary.
