Get in line boys!!

Quebec is set to get its first Amazon fulfillment centre, according to the online retailer. According to Amazon Canada, a new fulfillment centre is planned to open for the 2020 holiday shopping season in the borough of Lachine in Montreal.

Amazon says the new Lachine fulfillment centre will create 300 new full-time jobs on day one, complete with “comprehensive pay and benefits.”

“We’re excited about our growth in Montreal, which gives us the opportunity to better serve our customers across Quebec,” said Alexandre Gagnon, Vice President of Amazon Canada, in a statement. “The Greater Montreal area has a talented workforce, and we are committed to providing the area with great job opportunities that have comprehensive pay and benefits.”

Employees at this location will “pick, pack, and ship items for customers, ranging from toys and pet products to small electronics,” explains Amazon.

Once open, the new facility will be Amazon’s 12th fulfillment facility in Canada—and first in Quebec—joining the company’s current fulfillment centres in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario.

Yes what MTL needed. More truck traffic in an already congested area. Because you know having this at YMX with a direct airlink/ramp for Prime Air would make too much sense

Amazon mostly uses UPS and Intelcom (both of which are in Lachine) for final delivery so it makes more sense to be located near them. Delivery for stocking up the fulfillment center is mostly an overnight thing anyways so wtv.

Also they'll probably have an easier time hiring being located in Lachine than Mirabel.

IMO disagree, mirabel is well placed for mtl people and north shore people... twice as many people to apply for work.

Yea and those are located in the industrial park... The Amazon warehouse is going to be located on the former Canadian Car Foundry site/ Berge du Canal which means you have to go through the disaster of 20/1st av which is always jammed with traffic. Dollard/St Patrick bridge is always jammed as well. This is even before factoring in the increased volume of people that they are expecting to move to Villanova/other projects in the area.

So now you will have a shit ton more bigrigs clogging up an already clogged area. I thought the city idea was to move away from traffic jams and extra traffic. ... I'm sure Amazon will be asking for massive tax breaks and general dick sucking from the city as well.

get in line to what? work in their warehouse? hell no.
anyone who worked in their warehouse 10 years ago accumulated enough shares in 2 years to retire now IF they kept them. now all you get is a taste of slavery.

Être un priorietaire d'entreprise, combien tu serais prêt à payer un employé pour manipuler des boîtes? 15$ de l'heure? MR est contre le salaire minimum à 15$ de l'heure mais ça se plaint des jobs au salaire minimum? Ok...

New arrivals to Canada which will be "temp" workers... Then the gov can say "you see how good they have it"

Yeah Amazon doesn't particularly care about the traffic they might create, they just want to be closer to pay lower shipping costs.

It's up to the city to stand up to corporations like Amazon but they love the idea of such a company being around. Meanwhile it costs money having them around in terms of tax breaks and infrastructure wear... Jobs? 300 mostly low paying jobs that will be listed as "temporary" or part time. As I said.. then the gov will parade to people "you see how low unemployment is and how the new arrivals in VSP and Lachine have work. We have done it, the Canadian dream"

That's a rising issue not just here but all over. Dining room closes but drive thru stays open. A few restos near me will only do take away after 8pm now.

They stated it will be north of the 20.

My shop is in that huge building on Berge Du Canal. There is no way amazon is opening a warehouse in there.
