Business as usual.
NemesisBob is correct with saying manufacturing will be a huge issue and IMO I don't buy that Tesla will be delivering "cheap" models at first. We are still waiting for the "cheap" model 3. Tesla is a luxury brand and will continue to be so
They haven't even announced where it will be built yet. Model y will further stretch their capabilities in Fremont so it's a big unknown, that's for sure. It's also an unconventional approach to a uni-body so delays in mass production wouldn't be a big surprise.
This wasn't really a luxury play though. Their entry level price point is right at the core of the non premium full size truck market. They weren't taking aim at the Laramie or platinums with this. They're also undercutting rivian in a big way.
Most buyers have reservations for either the awd or tri-motor (later introduction) Early adopters tend to have deeper pockets and a desire for the bells and whistles. It makes sense for manufacturers to cater to their needs. Every manufacturer does that with their new products roll out.
Ford just launched the new explorer. Good luck finding a base model XLT with cloth seats. Most are limited/platinums or at the very least mid-grade w/ lots of options ticked off.
