Marie Fredriksson died Monday after a 17-year battle with cancer, her management company has confirmed.

The 61-year-old was a successful solo artist in her native Sweden before joining with Per Gessle to form Roxette, the act that went on to achieve global fame.
The duo's breakout single was "The Look," reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1989.
Another single, "It Must Have Been Love," became a smash hit after featuring in the soundtrack of the 1990 romantic comedy "Pretty Woman," starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts.

Wow... too young. This makes me immensely sad. :( Saw them live in the early 1990s and she wore a Habs jersey.

One of the very few female vocalists I can listen to without cringing.
 
J'écoutais souvent du Roxette, juste pour le plaisir. 61 ans, c'est pas si jeune non plus mais c'est pas "vieux". Criss de cancer à marde.
 
Pour moi Roxette, c'est synonymes de mon premiers "kick" sur une fille, les premiers "necking", jouer à la bouteille au camping en arrière de la salle communes avec Roxette-She's got the look qui joue sur le Juke box.
