I would say, depending on your skill set... consider starting a business, as well as returning to school. Weigh in all the pros and cons.
If you believe working for someone is the right choice for you, do that. But as others mentioned, do not specialize in car mechanics. There are way better paying positions in Heavy Industries, automation industries, maintenance, etc that require equal input during your studies, with a better reward.
I used to work three jobs while going to uni, thinking that education will get me to the moon.
Fast forward to now, I have a M.Eng degree, I speak and write five languages, and I don't use any of that in what I do.
Live and learn... hard to find what we love.
