Honestly, fuck all those who say "Just don't celebrate for (insert group here)".
You know what you're really saying. "I think you're too stupid to properly assess the risk you're taking, so I want to force you to not enjoy the holidays because I think I know you better than you know yourself"
Driving is a perfect example of this. You don't stop the rest of the world from driving because they might put you in danger or end up taking space in the hospital. If you think it's too risky, you stay home, end of story.
At this point, I expect the people who think they way they do to return to square 1 with the "but, but, but... think of the healthcare workers."
Again, if you're doing it properly, there will be no issue, yeah some minor cases because nothing is perfect but far from a huge problem. All COVID did was expose how broken our healthcare system is. We act as if there weren't already overcapacities and the workers weren't stretched to their limits before this started.
We always had a burdened system but now the X factor is that we have a mass hysteria that mentally takes a toll on the workers. I'd argue that under the same work load, if they didn't equate COVID to the Black plague (just a virus to be taken seriously), they wouldn't be burnt out.
The constant media coverage is psyching people out and that, right or wrong, in my opinion is why COVID is "worse" than something like the 2009 Swine flu which was similarly deadly for all the same groups of people.
So yeah, I'm still not advocating that everyone goes out and party like normal but who the fuck are you to tell other people not to gather when for all you know they and the people they're going to visit have been at home isolated for the past 2 weeks.
