I have an 04' Beetle Cabriolet 2.0 5spd belonging to a sibling of mine that has a bad ECU. Has anyone on here successfully swapped a used ECU without weird immobilizer issues or other hiccups and gotten the car working and 100% stock running again?
I've been reading up on various posts around the net and I haven't found a concise direction of what is needed to do this other than getting hold of an identical ECU to the original one being replaced.
Two scenarios keep coming up:
Has anyone tried these? Or better yet know of a garage, tuner shop, or person on the side who can do this? :dunno:
Thanks any help is greatly appreciated!

- Use a tool called Vagtacho to retrieve immo3 code from eeprom chip and reprogram replacement ecu.
desolder eeprom chip from original ecu and solder onto replacement, then use VCDS to update VIN#. Plug and play.
