Holy shit. What a horrifying way to die. Can't imagine living through this and not being able to defend yourself. I know the issue here is is mental health, but I can't stop thinking about how differently this could've turned out if law abiding citizens like this physician had the right to conceal carry. Thoughts to his family which will never understand who could to that to someone who swore an oath to help and heal other people.

Discuss.

Pretty sure you're not gonna whip out your glock after taking an estwing to the cranium.

H but I can't stop thinking about how differently this could've turned out if law abiding citizens like this physician had the right to conceal carry.

^yeah curious about, especially since he apparently had a smug on his face as he was being escorted out... fuck...

But why though?

Carrying a pistol in a doctor's office probably wouldn't do much. The rooms are super small and effective retention would be a PITA when conducting examinations. Ie it would potentially get in the way of proper care. It's probably hard to focus on listening to someone's heart or lungs while you're blading your body to keep your pistol out of reach and have to be ready and willing to fight to the death in order to retain it. Lots of family doctors are on the older / meeker side usually.

Who was the perpetrator of the deadliest mass shooting on an american millitary base? A Doctor. (psychiatrist)

So nah, not a magical solution. That might just given the crazy dude a hammer AND a pistol.

Environmental design would probably be more effective. (physical barrier, panic button, etc.)

It's a pretty rare occurence and these can't all be prevented. There's no shortage of people with a screw loose.
