If you have the budget, get a direct drive trainer.
If not, basic trainers and low budget "smart trainer" are basically a regular trainer with cadence and speed csensor.
Magnetic : better for resistance fluctuation and intervals
Fluid : better for road feeling and smoothness
There is also rollers, but you have a "learning curve" to do before being able to do intervals
Edit : Yes you will need a smart trainer, because the smart function with programs gives a lot of motivation. Don't think you'll be motivated enough to just spin in front of a TV, this will not happen. Even if you think you will, you won't. We've all been thru there.
Also a smart system allow you to do intervals more easily and structured training, which is a lot more efficient in terms of fitness, weightloss, etc.
