California absolutely uses Salt Brine on roads above the snow lines. Seattle banned salt on roads about 10-12 years ago and it's caused havoc on roads when it does snow/get icy. The sand does nothing against ice. Seattle is a hilly city..*Speaks in Floridian or Californian*
Could be worse. Could be the UK where road salt is basically table salt, most smaller roads are below fields which have mud run off. The fine salt gets eveywhere and the mud makes sure it stays there. The corrosion on cars there is way worse vs here. Like way way way worse
