Ford Maverick

https://driving.ca/auto-news/news/f...k-hybrid-nabs-official-rating-of-5-6-l-100-km

city 5.6L/100km, highway 7.1L/100km with a combined 6.3L/100km for the FWD hybrid, this is nuts, it will beat most sedans and it's even cheaper than most sedans.. damn.

Yup, pretty impressive. Saw my first one on the road today. I thought it looked pretty good.
I could see myself getting swayed if the hybrid was available with AWD.

It's too bad the Bean counters over at dearborn got a little too high on "de-contenting" to hit marketin's dumb 20k USD (w/o transport and prep) figure. GG removing the switches from the steering wheel and flipping a few bits on the ECM to make cruise control something you need to step up to the Mid-trim level (XLT) to get.

I've seen an XL for sale 'round here with nice additional features like power inverter, sun roof, 2.0t/awd and blind spot monitoring. At close to 35k it's just downright insulting that cruise is not included.

How realistic would it be in our climate to drive around in a fwd pickup truck during the winter?
Would it be so bad since the weight is all on the powered wheels?
Would it be worse than rwd pick up truck you guys think?

I’m really interested in that hybrid maverick

Let's face it the really serious snow falls are not that common anymore, we get maybe what 2-3 snow storms a year?
I figure with a tonneau cover and some decent tires and not driving like a dingbat it will be fine.

I'm seriously considering one but probably will wait till 2023-24 till they work out stuff as I'm sure there will be recalls/bugs to be worked out.

I think it's more of an ego / convenience thing than an actual deal breaker. It might struggle with traction off the line at times in deeper snow but it won't have rwd truck's most undesirable feature: a desire for the rear to wantonly step out.

That weight bias to the front has served FWD quite well by comparison.
