# Initial history
This section (bullet 1..9) was provided in [RE : Excessive Oil Consumption | Impreza 2014 JF1GPAA6XEG215151] sent on [2019-05-25] to [#QualityControlDirector]. It was to address their request to provide my car’s service/maintenance history prior to the 1st short-block replacement request.
1. On 2018-02-17, I bought this low mileage 2014 Impreza [S# JF1GPAA6XEG215151] from #DEALER1.
• The car had about 32,900kms when I took possession.
• I was told it had gone through the “152-point Inspection”.
• Note: Dealership mentioned the oil had been changed – I had a sticker on the windshield saying that was good until 42,900km.
2. The oil light came on for the 1st time @ around 39,700kms.
• I changed the oil entirely (5 L of Castrol GTX 5w30) and the oil filter (Motomaster and/or Frame) @ 39,763kms on 2018-05.
3. The oil light came back on for the 2nd time at around 44,000kms.
• I changed the oil entirely (5 L of Castrol GTX 5w30) and the oil filter (Motomaster and/or Frame) again @ 44,195kms in 2018-08.
4. The oil light came back on for the 3rd time @ around 48,000kms.
• This time I added oil (1 L of Castrol GTX 5w30) @ around 48,000kms on 2018-10,
• And I began researching the issue … The Oil Consumption VIN Lookup tool indicated that my Serial # wasn’t covered by the recall?
5. The oil light came back on for the 4th time @ around 51,000kms.
• This time I contacted #DEALER2 and figured that I was eligible for the recall (Excessive Oil Consumption) on this model/year.
• #DEALER2 began the oil consumption monitoring program.
• #DEALER2 changed the oil and filter for free (1 of 2 included in the oil consumption monitoring program) at around 52,000kms and instructed me to return there as soon as the oil light came on.
6. The oil light came back on for the 5th time @ around 55,300kms
• #DEALER2 measured the oil level: it was missing 1 L.
• #DEALER2 added oil (1 L)
7. The oil light came back on for the 6th time around 57,500kms
• #DEALER2 measured the oil level: it was missing 0.5 L.
• #DEALER2 changed the oil and filter for free (2 of 2 included in the oil consumption monitoring program) at around 58,600kms and instructed me to return there as soon as the oil light came on.
8. The oil light came back on for the 7th time around 61,000kms
• #DEALER2 measured the oil level: it was missing 1.5 L.
• I added 1 L of Castrol EDGE (SAE) 0w20
9. #DEALER2 asked me to provide the “history” of my service/maintenance [this].
#Continued history
This section (bullet 10+) is in preparation for my next plan of action(s) while waiting for Subaru Canada to review my case for the 3rd short-block that’s still consuming excessive oil.
10. 2019-06-19 The oil light came back on for the 8th time @ 64,626kms. Dipstick was at the “low” mark.
• I added 1-liter (L) of Castrol EDGE (SAE) 0w20
11. 2019-07-05 #DEALER2 tells me that Subaru Canada authorized the replacement of my engine block.
12. 2019-10-07 to 2019-10-11 @ 69307kms, my car spends 5 days at #DEALER2. They replaced the engine (short-block) with a brand new one.
13. 2019-11-25 The oil light came back on for the 9th time @ 71,651kms (2344kms on the new short-block)
14. 2019-11-27 #QualityControlDirector tells me that Subaru’s recommended “break-in” period on a new short-block is 10,000kms, and that there’s nothing he can do until then. As per his instructions over the phone:
• I added 1L of Quake (SAE) 0w20 oil to top it up.
15. 2020-02-05 The oil light came back on for the 10th time @ 75,539kms (6219kms on the new short-block, 3875kms since last 1L added). Same as before: #QualityControlDirector tells me that Subaru’s recommended “break-in” period on a new short-block is 10,000kms, and that there’s nothing he can do until then. As per his instructions over the phone:
• I added 1L of Quake (SAE) 0w20 oil to top it up again.
• Note: at this time, I also mentioned to #QualityControlDirector something I weird that I noticed since the short-block was changed: the oil light which use to light up at the low point on the oil dip stick (i.e., when 1 L is missing), now lights up when there’s no oil at all on the tip of the dip stick (i.e. closer to 1.5 L missing). This “mystery” was never addressed.
16. 2020-05-22 Noticing issues: (1) A/C blows cold air only 10 minutes before it stops working; it worked fine last summer/fall but doesn’t work correctly anymore. (2) Visible damage on a wire-harness in the engine bay. (3) missing airbox clips. I tell #DEALER2 that it appears the technician(s) that worked on the short-block change back in 2019-11 has broken or forgotten things.
• As per #QualityControlDirector and/or #DEALER2 recommendation, an appointment is scheduled on 2020-07-17 to verify and address the issues.
17. 2020-07-07 The oil light came back on for the 11th time @ 79,507kms (10,200kms on the new short-block, 3968kms since last 1L added). #QualityControlDirector recommends that I get my oil changed during the appointment that’s already scheduled (2020-07-17) and to begin another round of “oil consumption monitoring program”.
• Except that from now on, the cost associated with these oil changes is no longer covered for free under the “Excessive Oil Consumption” program, because the 2 that were originally included have already been consumed back in 2018. So oil changes are at my cost from now on.
18. 2020-07-17 #DEALER2 completes the verifications for the issues I brought up on 2020-05-22:
• For issue (1) A/C malfunction, #DEALER2 claims the issue has no relation with work they did for the short-block.
• For issue (2) damaged wire-harness, they claim to have fixed it. Note: I’m certain that they only covered the whole harness with tape but left the individual wires (inside the harness) exposed.
• For (3) they added the missing clips.
• They completed the oil change and began the 2nd round of “oil consumption monitoring program”
19. 2020-11-03 The oil light came back on for the 12th time @ 82,057kms (12,750kms on the new short-block, 2550kms since oil change on 2020-07-17). #QualityControlDirector recommends that I book an appointment for verification and oil measurement.
• Had trouble booking an appointment in a reasonable time at first because #DEALER2 is busy with tire changes.
• Eventually got something scheduled for 2020-11-09
20. 2020-11-09 #DEALER2 completes their verification and tells me they’re submitting my case/file to Subaru Canada again.
21. 2020-11-17 #QualityControlDirector tells me that Subaru Canada authorized another replacement of my engine block. Appointment is scheduled for 2021-01-18.
22. 2021-01-18 to 2021-01-22 @ 83,870kms, my car spends 3 days at #DEALER2. They replaced the engine (short-block) AGAIN with another brand new one.
23. 2021-10-09 The oil light came back on for the 13th time @ 88,232kms (4362kms on this 2nd new short-block)
• #QualityControlDirector tells me again that Subaru’s recommended “break-in” period on a new short-block is 10,000kms, and that there’s nothing he can do until then. #QualityControlDirector also reminds me that an oil change should have been done since it has been more than 6 months. Recommends I get it changed even thought it’s only been 4365kms.
• An appointment is scheduled at #DEALER2 and my oil is changed on 2021-10-15. Oil measurement they reported during this oil change = 1.5 L missing.
• I asked if it was possible to raise my situation to Subaru Canada right away since this is the 3rd engine (2 short-blocks replacement) in the car yet it still consumes excessive amount of oil. #QualityControlDirector tells me nothing he can do until the 10,000kms break-in period has been completed.
24. 2022-05-12 The oil light came back on for the 14th time @ 92,406kms (8509kms on this 2nd new short-block, 4147kms since last oil change on 2021-10-15)
• #QualityControlDirector tells me again that Subaru’s recommended “break-in” period on a new short-block is 10,000kms and that there’s nothing he can do until then.
• Once again, #QualityControlDirector reminds me that an oil change should have been done since it has been more than 6 months since the last one.
• An appointment is scheduled at #DEALER2 and my oil is changed on 2022-05-17. Oil measurement they reported during this oil change = 0.5 to 0.75 L missing. I told them that this was wrong and that I had proofs. A correction is made to “a little over 1litre” (?). But the truth is that it was missing just as much as last time; 1.5 litre.
25. 2022-08-17 The oil light came back on for the 15th time @ 95,306kms (11,400kms on this 2nd new short-block, 2900kms since last oil change on 2022-05-17)
• As per #QualityControlDirector’s recommendation, an appointment is scheduled at #DEALER2 on 2022-08-24 to verify everything. #DEALER2 completes their verification and the il measurement they reported during this oil change = 2.5 L missing.
• They “added the missing 2.5 L of oil”, confirmed everything else was ok and told me that they were submitting my case/file to Subaru Canada again.
• I explain to #QualityControlDirector that I’ve been patient enough about this whole ordeal and this has caused me nothing but issues (cost and stress). He says that he’s got no control over this and to contact Subaru Canada directly.
• On 2022-08-25 I verified the oil and noted that #DEALER2 had added too much oil. Estimated 0.25 to 0.75 L over based on what’s visible on the oil dip stick. I sent this information to #QualityControlDirector but no answer.
