I did file a police report. The station was on my way home and it took 5min but the cop said there's nothing they can do since I was parked on the street and there's no cameras on the street. I checked around and didn't see any cameras neither. As she said they won't do anything, there was like 6 cops in the back chilling lol
Local stations know who the local shit heads are. The problem is for such petty matters for the amount of time it takes to process it’s not worth it for them and the prosecutor. Even if you had the guys face, knew who he was etc the investigator you speak with later on will likely try to talk you out of it pressing ahead. Saying you will lose time off work and it will take years in court. Besides that person already likely has a record and knows how the system works.
It’s not even the cops it’s rather the legal system itself is so clogged that trivial matters are basically put aside. So this is why people get upset with cops having time to hand out tickets for rolling a stop sign or speed when their cars get broken into or garage robbed. When in reality their hands are tied by higher ups.
Let’s put it this way the way things are written if you tape razor blades under you door handles and some thief slices his fingers you would likely be charged. As you put them there to harm rather than teach a lesson in the eyes of the law.
We have friends that lived in SF and it’s so bad there that they would park their with windows down. That lasted until homeless people started sleeping in your car.
