** Official 2019-2020 Montreal Canadiens Thread **

Why did the Habs need help right away? In order to do what? An insanely over achieving team with all the right bounces didn't make the playoffs last year. Did management really expect a repeat? Probably because they are that daft, but to say KK's development was stunted because we had no choice but to rush him into the NHL would set off alarm bells for anyone familiar with the Canadiens development track record.

It's not like the Vancouver Canucks couldn't have rushed Pettersson and made him play the 17-18 season in Vancouver. And it's not like Edmonton wouldn't have loved to rush Draisaitl to play a full 82 game season following his draft year. But it wasn't in his best interest. They told him to go dominate the AHL and come back when he was ready and acclimated with living in a different country for the first time in his life. Same story for many other European born prospects transitioning to the NHL that aren't #1 overall picks like Aho, Rantanen, etc. Dominate the AHL, learn to live away from home and in a different country, bulk up and adapt to your grown body. But MB knows better and he has the track record to prove it.

That's why in my post, I put "right away" in air quotes.

Stop trolling. NHL players don't waive their NTC/NMC... especially not goaltenders. You think Fleury waived both his NMC and NTC to end up in the expansion draft and head to Las Vegas? What kind of dumb dumb are you... hello? And anyways, it's not like he has family in the area or his wife is from the area or he has playing history in the area, so why the hell would he go and waive his NMC. Honestly can't believe you are even having this conversation.

Rules from 2017:

All 30 current NHL teams must submit a Protected List of players to the NHL by Saturday, June 17 at 5 p.m. ET
Either include a list of seven forwards, three defensemen, and one goaltender OR eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender
Players with a "No Movement" clause must be protected if the player does not waive the clause
First and second-year professional players and unsigned draft picks are not eligible for the expansion draft and won't need to be protected
All other players are eligible for the Expansion Draft
The entire NHL is under a 'roster freeze.' No trades, no waivers until after the Golden Knights' roster is created
Protected lists are sent to all 31 teams on Sunday, June 18. Golden Knights are allowed to interview eligible players.
Las Vegas must submit a list of 30 players to the NHL by Wednesday, June 21 at 10 a.m.
Golden Knights must select one player from each current NHL team
30-man roster must include 14 forwards, nine defensemen, and three goaltenders
20 players must be under contract for the 2017-18 season
Salaries of the players selected must combine to be between 60 and 100 percent of the salary cap's upper limit

7 FWD, 3DEF and 1 goaltender OR 8 skaters and one goaltender.

Who would you protect?

1st and 2nd year exempted so KK, Suzuki, Poehling are fine but Mete is not.

It's quite a predicament. Do you keep Kovi or trade him at the limit? What if you keep him and now leave him open to expansion draft? If not WHO gets bumped?

Danault? He's a great center but doesn't get the credit he deserves so that would be easy would it? Then again he's French Canadian...

My protection list AT THIS time without checking for any non-movement clauses - others might have one that I don't know of:

Tatar - Danault - Gallagher - Drouin - Armia - Domi - Lekhonen

Weber - Petry - Chiarot (Mete? which one?) Pretty sure Weber has a non movement clause... I'd still keep him.

Price?

Maybe this is why our resident chest-bras has been stock-piling garbage players for the past two years - so he could leave them unprotected.

Thomson - Weise - Cousins - Weal - Kulak - Folin - voire Byron... Lindgren... Kinkaid... who else? All the perennial AHL players like McCarron or the (I still think under-rated) Hudon.

Weber doesn't have a NTC or NMC.

NTC:
Karl Alzner (7-team no-trade list)
Ben Chiarot (10-team no-trade list)

NMC:
Jeff Petry (15-team no-trade list)
Carey Price

Actually, Fleury had a limited no trade clause. He had a list of teams he didnt want to be traded to, but the team had the freedom to trade him anywhere else they wanted to. Also, he had become the 2nd goalie of the team and wanted to play, which is why he accepted to go to Vegas.
So if he didnt waive his NMC, he could have landed anywhere else, which he didnt want.
Always a pleasure to educate you.
