The much anticipated reveal of “the D” took place yesterday as Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced an all-wheel drive version of its Model S luxury electric vehicle.
The optional all-wheel drive is attained by use of a second electric motor powering the front wheels. The letter D stands for dual motor, Musk said.
The new model will have improved performance and safety features including the ability to automatically correct the trajectory the car if its drifting off the road. 0-100km acceleration can be accomplished in just 3.2 seconds and the top speed will be 250 kilometres per hour.
