Scion Is Finished

Parent company Toyota intends to announce Wednesday that the Scion brand will be discontinued according to a report by CarBuzzard.com. The report alleges that Scion employees were given advance notice yesterday ahead of the announcement.

Poor sales have hurt the youth-targeted brand in recent years and in 2015 Scion sold 56,167 cars in total. Sales peaked in 2006 with 175,000 units sold.

Toyota’s vision had been to have young people start with Scion, move to Toyota and graduate to Lexus as they got older but in the end things didn’t exactly work out that way. Scion seemed to have trouble reaching their target demographic and the average age of the Scion owner was 49!

It was cool while it lasted but sadly Scion now joins the ranks of Pontiac, Saturn, Suzuki, Plymouth, Oldsmobile and all the other now defunct car companies in the annals of history.
