damn, congrats, i know a ton of people trying to get in. definately musta taken a lot of work to get there *tu*

I say 6 more years easily because the school I am going to does the study part intensivly. Its a year and a half intensive then 2 years of clinical rotation...then specialization. The best part about it is thats its a school from the united states so I will able to work there if I want to and the even better part is-- that the studying part takes place in bonaire. An island in the carribean. You really can't get any better than that! studying, surfing and diving.
Should be an interesting part of my life.
I then go back to the states to take the clinical exam and then I could do my rotations in canada or the states depending where I wanna start my practice

laffs! close!

it will cost 27 thousand USD for the intensive year and a half.
That includes school tuition and rent and food.

that's like 38,000 CDN, being around 2100$ per month, - ~400$ for assumed rent, - ~200$ for assumed food leaves 1500$/month for school. multiplying that back into the 18 months, we're back at....27,000$.....CDN, hah

gonna be one hell of an experience, good luck on everything to come.

What do you mean by "specialization?" Med schools in the US all have the same basic curriculum: 2 years basic sciences, and 2 years clinical rotations (clerkships + electives).

What's the name of the school? I've heard of some in Mexico and Grenada that are similar to what you're describing

It doesn't matter whether you do your clinical rotations in the Canada or the US since there's reciprocity between the two systems. The critical thing is where you do your residency and (more importantly) fellowship.

Anyway, good luck! I've been through med school and I'm now almost done with my residency and PhD in experimental medicine. It's been fun. But I could use more sleep ;)

you can specialise in your residency.

I'd like to get into medecine and specialize in either neurology or plastic surgery (specifically breasts and liposuction)
Plastics can be fun, especially hand surgery and the big craniofacial reconstruction cases. Breasts and lipo are pretty boring (and tedious) but they bring in big money, so they've become bread-and-butter cases.

Neurology is boring as hell IMNSHO.

Yeah...I know. I'm a chief resident myself. But you don't specialize in medical school, so I'm trying to understand what Zelda is describing.

Why not go at Mc Gill or Université de Montréal? They're cheaper and better than most US universities.
