Quebec is now officially a Republique de Banane!

I hope for the sake of all socialists that corporations stop investing in Quebec and take their money out of this province. We will see who laughs then...

Corporations investing in Quebec?

Do you mean Quebec giving away tax payers' money to Corporations?

No, Corporations investing in Quebec. You make it sound like its new to lure corporations in a country/province, Corporations will always go where it best suits them and if it ain't in Quebec they will go elsewhere. What makes Quebec any different than other countries/provinces to invest in? The answer is nothing, it all comes down to $$$ and tax breaks.

Why did Elctrolux leave Quebec (more precisely Montreal), because they got better incentives in Tennessee that Quebec could not match.

If tomorrow morning the Quebec Government stops subsidizing the gaming industry, it is bye-bye for Ubisoft and all others.

With the world economy in a fragile state, every job counts and bankrupt countries (including Quebec) need to go through big subsidize and tax breaks to lure them into their backyard. Such is the modern world and economy.

unless you have a new party to put in power, we will end up with the same shit with a different name. makes no difference if it's the red or the blue running the show, it's still turds running it and they both running it in the same direction.

more and more people are aware of this, and you can clearly see it... gauche ou droite its always the same at the end

im not a student, and i pay like everybody else, but im on their side.

something has to change... we pay more and more and we get less and less

Wait and see banane.

Don't get me wrong, if there was a legitimate movement against the corruption, high utilities prices, excessively high gas prices, abusive taxes etc.. I'd be in the streets with them.

But this is just so all over the place with no clear direction, that it will accomplish nothing in the end.

Not exactly. Between the lost revenues due to the tourists staying the fuck away and the massive overtime costs for the police department, the City of Montreal will either ask for financial help from the provincial government or raise taxes again.

2 opinions tres differentes.

Yeah that's quite the mindfuck isn't it.

"We can't have what we want right now, so we'll fuck up what we'll get in the future".

Guess they don't realize how quickly you can ruin a town's rep in the face of travelers and business owners. And what hurts montreal also hurts a lot of surrounding towns.

Do you know why you are paying more for less, it is simply to maintain the level of retired civil and unionised workforce and their indexed packages. The increase in taxes in gasoline are not going towards public transit, they are going towards the STCUM pension plans. The increase in property taxes are not going towards better services, they are going towards the blue collars and their pension plans. Same goes for your provincial taxes, they are going towards the civil servants and their pension plans.

Pension plans are extremely costly but you try and cut them, the Government knows it is a losing battle because social Government needs union support to get votes. The revolt should be towards the unions and the cost to maintain their employees versus the Government in general.

Corporations have a way out, they declare bankruptcy, renegotiate the terms and move on. Governments cannot do that and pensioners will not give it up therefore we are stuck with the bill. Next time you see a 55-year old retired government employee, ask him why he's not working and if he's willing to give up his pension plan to help the young generations. You'll see what response you will get...Instead of giving up $$$ he will parade the streets in support but he as the last laugh because he doesn't care or see the need to make a sacrifice.

These plans were all negotiated when times were good (or seemed to be good on paper) and now we are stuck and the only way out is to cut costs with a leaner government.

Speaking of NordDicks, why don't protesters take it to Quebec City and destroy it given they got $175M-$200M of our tax money for an arena with no team while in Montreal all was paid by the private sector. Why don't protesters go and tam-tam in front of Labaume and leave Montrealers alone...

Greece has seen their tourists decline by 30%, same will happen here generating less foreign revenue & taxes for the government which in turn means less money for services.

The Universities are 2 Billions in the red when you take into account the employees retirement plan.
