One person is dead and a man is injured after a shooting at a daycare in Gatineau, Que.
Police said all 53 children, as well as the daycare staff members were safe after a major response to 225 and 229 Gamelin St., at 10:25 a.m. ET Friday. About 20 police vehicles were on scene.
The CBC's Evan Dyer reported one person was dead at the scene, but no staff or children were hurt. Paramedics said one man was injured, but the extent of the injuries are not known.
"We know there's at least one fatality, because we saw one adult-sized body being taken out on a stretcher, covered," he said.
There were 53 children involved, including 48 at 225 Gamelin who are all under five years old. There were also five infants at 229 Gamelin. All of them were moved to a neighbour's home at 231 Gamelin.
The CBC's Cory O'Kelly said there were five ambulances at the scene.
Parents reach daycare children
After the shooting, the daycare was evacuated and the children were brought to a neighbouring home.
A bus had arrived and parents were being taken to their children, police said.
O'Kelly reported a man had run toward the scene screaming, before a police officer went to him to calm him down.
The building is across the street from the Hull Hospital. Hospital staff were seen bringing trolleys with lunches to the children as they waited
