Are you a Hypermiler?

I am.....almost everyday....

It's nice to see the huge benefits of good driving habits that have a significant impact on gas mileage.

I drive an Audi Q5 2.0T Quattro everyday in my 50 kms commute to work (100 kms / day), highway driving almost 95% and I can get as low as 7.0 - 7.2L/100 kms daily.

I already got 6.7L/100 kms a couple of times this summer...which is quite good for a 1550 kgs permanent AWD SUV...!!

If I get an overall gas tank average better than 12L/100 kms i was sick that week.
I am not an economical driver unfortunately.
I6 2.5L N/A BMW

I know that feel.

After driving an automatic mk3 for two years. I take advatage of the manual every chance i get. Downhill? neutral. Coasting on an empty road? neutral. Coming off the highway? Neutral. lol

Also i only go above 2K to shift at 2.1

Unless im driving hard, in which case cinq cylindre dans panne!

I could be wrong but Im not sure the neutral thing really helps cause your injectors are squirting gas to prevent the engine from stalling. If you coast in gear the injectors are completely off and the wheels are turning the engine. You do lose a little bit of speed like that from the compression though. Idk any hypermilers can chime in on this one?

There is the pulse and glide theory, never bothered though. On diesel engines or motorcycles, engine braking is quite strong too. And below 1500rpm or so the injectors squirt gas anyways

If you don't like your car, you can always shut the engine off, coast on neutral and before you stop or after the downhill, you dump de clutch to fire up the engine

I have an Evo with 1000cc injectors and 500+ hp- I am just happy to make it through a week without gassing up twice. The car is really only happy when boosting.

Ford 2.3's dont heat up properly and seem to always run rich, I have 2 of those, and the miata well.... revs too damn high on the highway to get good gas mileage.
