At the Consumer Electronics Show currently being held in Las Vegas, BMW has a new type of key fob for the i8 plug-in hybrid.
The fob has all the functions you’d normally find in standard models but also contains a 2.2-inch LCD touch screen to provide information on fuel level, battery charge, whether the doors and windows are locked and when the next service is.
Powering the device is a lithium-ion battery that can be charged simply by placing it in a special bay (contact free) or via a USB port. BMW says the batter should last up to three months between charges.
The innovative premium key fob will be an option for the BMW i8 starting in autumn 2015.
