Any one installed a push button ignition switch like in S2000?

Hi guys and gals,

I have a bit of a problem with my ignition switch. I think its worn out a bit so I have hard time starting the car. I tried to find a replacement without any success. Now I was thinking that I can take the easy/cheap way out and install a push botton switch. Any of you installed such thing on you rides? If so can anyone guide me to a place where I can learn or have it done. Also if there are problems that can arise from doing this mod.

J'ai un petit problème avec mon commutateur d'allumage. Je pense qu'il est un peu usé et d'ai de la difficulté à mettre la voiture en marche. J'ai essayé de trouver un remplacement sans succès. Maintenant je pensais que je sortir de cela avec un mod facile et cheap et installer un push-botton. Quelqu'un peut me guider à un endroit où je puis l'apprendre ou faire faire. S'il y a des problèmes qui peuvent résulter par ce mod.

Mais , si t'installe sa n'importe qui va pouvoir partir le char sans clé *td*
de la facon que tu parle tu veut "enlever " l'ignition switch , car un push button est simplement la rotation que tu fait avec la clé qui est "counter springer" (ok je sais c'est un peu chinois sa)
Mais bon , les push button d'habitude marche avec l'ignition switch , moi je te sugere d'Appeler chez le dealer pour t'informer pour remplacer la switch si elle est vraiment défectueuse *tu*

Je pensais qu'on peut metre le push button avec des relais pis ca ne marchera pas sans la cle dans ingition. C'est tu possible quand même garder la clé comme nécessaire.

J'ai acheté un camion l'année passée...l'ignition devait etre cassé ou qqch du genre...pour le partir, ce qu'il fallait que je fasse s'était de mettre la clé dans l'ignition et tourné pour débarer le steering et il avait un piton sur le dash, je pèse pis il démare...DONC d'apres moi, ya rien de compliquer la dedans apart pour le steering qui est barré...

J'espère que quelqu'un va etre en mesure de mieux répondre que moi car sa m'intrigue!

you have to make sure not to mess up the wires on the ignition, because when you turn it to the start, certain things turn off and others on, and then when you let go, they revert, with a simple push button i do not think you will be able to achieve this, meaning that when you try and start your car with the button, the radio, lights etc won't turn off for a couple seconds, putting a big load on your battery

You're right Steve S14. I will seek help from anyone who can help me with this. I have been looking for a replacement ignition switch but that means I will have two sets of keys (one for doors and another for ignition) I was hoping to take an easy way out. Thanks for ur input. I will post my findings as to help anyone who has similar questions/problems.

I don't understand your problem well , i mean the ignition switch works except when you start the car ? In this case a pushbutton can be a really good solution *tu*
Otherwise the best thing is to change the switch , OR many people don't realise it but their key is getting old and used , the solution is not to make a double , cuz the key guy will replicate the USED key , the solution is again to go at the dealer and get a key made , @ honda they cost 5$ , @ nissan i dunno :dunno:

Well as I said the problem occures when I try to start the car. The contacts seem to be worn out so I have to giggle the key while holding it in place as if I'm trying to start the car. Its hard to explain and even hard for ppl to start my car (except me) . So All I need is a bypass for the last potision (ingition) in the ignition switch.
