I am considering removing my cat converter on my 1990 Jetta. I think will increase my horsepower by a little. My question is, will the muffler sound the same? What I don't want, is for it to be much louder and obvious.

:p

ya like vikking77, for all the trouble it's gonna cost ya, it's really not worth it. It doesn't do anything anyways. I considered doing that on my car and everyone told me to leave it there. Plus they are really expensive to put back or buy if you throw it away... Even high flow cats aren't recommended if ever you were considering that option

Catylitic converters in newer cars really aren't restrictive...going with a straight pipe and eliminating your resonator would make the car sound like crap...

your better off just leaving it alone

i emptyed out my cat on my civic ,but there was so much pressure passing tru that i blew the huge hole in my muffler ,and i didnt feel any difference in doing that ,so i just wasted my time doing it and it still cost me money too fix

Good stuff. The thing is, i bought a new muffler for myself for Xmas, and I'm still debating on just installing the mufler on my old exhaust system, changing the cat or getting rid of it all together. I don't want my car to be all noise and no power. Im not going to do the straight pipe thing, bust should I get a free flow cat or something??
