Small Business data backup / server

My uncle has a small business, he wants to get a server and/or a backup system.

I'm thinking of getting something simple like a drobo/NAS and have each computer make a mirror copy of the few important files each night on the drobo. The only files they need are "My Documents", the outlook email files, and one folder where the accounting system lies.

My other option is to get an exchange server hosting online for their emails (that would help as currently they check email through pop so it's not smooth like exchange), and backup only the documents and accounting folder.

Another option would be to have a local server running the accounting folder (where multiple users connect to it) and run the email mailbox folders, accessed by each individuals outlook clients.

Another option is to switch them to office 365??

What do you think? I'm not too good at networking, so I need some help there.
 
Une chose que tu peux faire c'est d'activer la synchronisation/redirection des fichiers Windows (Mes Documents, Bureau) de chacun des postes clients sur un serveur de fichiers.

Ensuite, tu prends un NAS et tu backup ces données là à chaque soir.

Sinon, si tu ne veux pas de casser la tête et ton porte-feuilles, vas y avec un NAS pur et simple.

Pour tes courriels, c'est quoi t'utilises en ce moment ? Outlook Express ?

IMHO, te monter un Exchange Server va te coûter très cher pour une petite PME. Et ce n'est pas facile à gérer non plus...
 
ils uitlisent outlook tout court

donc je pourrais mettre les .pst ainsi que les my document, bureau, etc sur le NAS... ca serait pas mal failproof.

Est-ce qu'un NAS comme un Drobo peut prendre 3-4 users en meme temps?

J'ai trois drobo chez nous / chalet et j'aime vraiment ça, mais ce sont des versions "home" alors faudrait je regarde pour ceci:

I would do what was stated by Matrix21. If the number of clients is very small, just redirect their folders to a shared server, and use a NAS to store nightly differential incremental backups.

Have a NAS as a file server, IMHO, is a bad idea. It's not made for that.

If you have 3-4 clients only. I would suggest either what i said earlier (shared folders on a real server) or install a real file server (actual physical server) and make a shared network folder out of it.

As for the backups, you can create a batch file that copies all the data you want each night to that server*.

If you want to spend money on some professionnal backups solutions, feel free. Sorry, the only i know is Tivoli but it is for big enterprises...

DROBO seems good for backuping your file server though.

PS : DROBO might be also good for an Offsite backup.

When i say File Server, i mean, a real server with Windows 2008 R2 x64 :)

I might start small. A Cisco switch and a synology NAS at least for backups.

By the way, we have a many Synologys here, RS411. Rackmount + RAID5, reliable.

If you want to have a NAS, you should buy something professionnal or made for business, just likle the RS411. Maybe they have a newer model.

backup Sert a rien si cest dans la meme chambre..


Mets tout sur un NAS et Fait le backup sur un cloude de ton choix.
 
oui on va fair eun backup hebdo sur le cloud.

mais localement on veut failsafe pour le data... en plus qu'on voudrait accéder VPN aux fichiers

son ordi a p;anté la sem passée et il pensait avoir otut perdu, mais finalement le HDD était correct c'est le motherboard qui a flanché
 
get crashplan.

I use crashplan for all my pc's on my unraid server, but i could easily pay to sync my info to the cloud (at least the important files)
 
Dell power edge dans un garde-robe avec des backup journalier t installer le win que ta besoin et bingo

Pour ton DS1513+, je te conseille un RAID5 à 4 disque et ton dernier HDD mets-le en hotspare.
Les HDDs sont hotswap.

Pour ton backup offsite, tu peux utiliser le cloud oui, en autant qu'il soit fiable.

As-tu deja ton VPN de configuré ou tu veux en faire un ?
 
Je veux en faire un mais je crois que je vais devoir engager un expert. Je suis déjà limite de mes capacités.

En effet, car tu ne veux pas créer un brèche de sécurité béante en faisant ton VPN lol.
