Well that's good news. Starting theory courses this month. How is riding with someone else supposed to help you? or safe you in an emergency situation? Its really all down to you.
He's there to give you hint on your riding. Normally you shouldn't have to experience "big" emergency situation since the ride should be made in low traffic road, and not on decarie around rush hour. Taking a curve too fast is your problem whatever you are babysit or not..
But a lot of "accompagnateur" don't do shit..they just keep you along them ....Just as a lot of "accompagné" can't take any criticism.
I went in a ride with a ride this year. after just 10km, I had a hint for him. He taked it, and it went way better after.
It could be as "stupid" as.: don't crisp up, try to take a curve that kind of way, take your time while shifting, look far, stay in that portion of the lane in this situation, signal erlier, don't forget your signal after making the turn, try to brake early, etc, etc, etc and talk about situation, even small one.
Bad habit coming from car driving can be REALLY bad when riding a bike for a noob!
Pretty much every time I ride with a noob that is really beginning or haven't ride for a while: I ask him if he want to do some "panic brake" on his own. rear wheel shouldn't lock! Guess what: It always do with newbies! Just because you are used to use your right foot "hard" in a car...which you almost should never use on a bike expecially when you begin.
Ohh wait...what does an accompagnateur can do again?
