XcOm, I used to be an Account Director at Amex for large corp accounts

If you have a personal platinum American Express, you do have the 200$ a year voucher for travel credit when you book with Amex Travel. The card is 700$ (-200$ for the voucher = 500$)

If that is the card you have and can open a corporate card under your business, but using your personal credit still. Then you can take the Amex Corp Platinum at 399$ a year, which does not include the 200$ voucher. So yes that one is cheaper in the end.

To be honest, and not because I was an Account Director there or anything, the Platinum at Amex for lounge/vip treatment is the best one in market

For those who don't know the Amex gives you a free Priority Pass that is usually 399$ a year on its own.

So for someone like XcOm its the perfect card, yes the cost might seem high but when you break it down with the priority pass and all other insurances and benefits, for a high flyer = Best card and best bang for the buck

Thanks. Considering it myself, that or one of the Infinite Privilege cards. Visa is getting there, but Amex still seems like the best deal in town for that type of usage. Too bad there’s no one with a Visa IP card around here.

From what I understand, the Visa Infinite Privilege gives you access to Visa lounges and only the 99$ priority pass package, which means you need to pay 27$ every lounge you enter still (maybe its the 249$ pass with 10 visits), someone with one on MR would have to confirm... where as the Amex Plat gives you full out access to all Priority pass + Amex lounges worldwide.

The problem with Visa/MC is that Infinite Privilege and World Elite are known in North America and parts of Europe as top end cards, but the second you go anywhere else like Asia/Africa or Eastern Europe , they're less recognized and some of my clients back then had issues in lounge access with those.... where as Amex is seen as a "Prestige Card" everywhere in the world

For now anyone that flies for work or even leisure quite a lot, nothing beats the Amex Platinum

In the US they do have Black VISA and MC but those compete more with the Centurion Amex, which even there VISA/MC are far behind because Amex has literraly a concierge service that cannot be beat with regular customer service like agents at Visa/MC

I remember asking a concierge in Montreal what the weirdest request he ever got from a Centurion card holder and he said none.... they all order escorts/hotels/reserve at the best restaurants/flowers/expensive car rentals

Imagine that
"Hello its concierge from Amex Centurion, our client would like a brunette 5"10 with double Ds sent to his Hotel"

hahaha FYI they're not supposed to do the escort stuff, its in the rules, but they all do cause none of them want to lose their jobs cause of one of those card holders

Amex est peut être un belle carte vip baller maos refusée dans plusieurs commerces non? De ce que je lis sur le web ils prennent plus de frais que visa/mc aux commerçants, facile dans ces conditions de booster les rewards.

Persianrider is right. The Amex card is THE card if you travel a lot. One perk that isn't well known is that you can also bring a guest with you in the lounge for free. And you get access to the centurion lounges which are pretty damn nice. When I travel with someone, we just walk in, sign in and relax.

I haven't taken advantage of the $200 travel credit yet. That's a good idea and something I need to look into

The only places I've come across in North America that don't take Amex are smaller restaurants, or small chains. In Europe it's a little bit tougher. Hotels will accept Amex, and of course all the big chain restaurants, but a lot of smaller and medium businesses won't. Even some stores in big shopping malls don't.

The Amex card is really a secondary luxury card.

It's why I'd love to find a way to get that Chase Sapphire card in Canada. Visa, but with all of Amex perks. Too bad we're second class citizens up here

Both me and my wife have MC World Elite and we travel quite often (at least once a month) but I never bothered to even look for lounge...

Is it worth it ?

Its not too far from the Maple Leaf lounge, and I find its worth chilling there until you need to board. Especially now that they've moved to a much nicer spot with a sweet view. The food is meh but it does the job.

You might not have seen it because its on the international side, not the US/Canada one.

Dis nous en plus si tu veux bien!

En temps et lieu, pour le moment je developpe la clientèle de la compagnie qui me donne le local sans frais. Je suis deja debordé (je travail seul) alors jveux pas plus de pub! lol

En temps et lieu promis

If you've got a highend Amex, you pretty much shop at places that already accept it. Holt's / Harry Rossen's etc, you do your groceries exclusively at Whole Foods. Anywhere that doesn't accept Amex you've got a stack of 20's in your pocket for.

It's a perk if you plan on using it, I try to minimize my time at airports so unless I've got a long connection or a flight's been delayed. I don't care that much about lounge access.

Même les riches vont au McDonald's et veulent paypass parce qu'une Ferrari n'a pas de pocket change holder.

First world problem...

Changed from VISA to a Desjardins MC World Elite recently and i'm having problems using tap to pay for gas. Works everywhere else, Tim Hortons, groceries, movie theater but for gas, nope, gotta put the card in and punch my PIN. Apparently it'S a restriction at the retailer level according to the person I spoke with at MC.

Anyone else has that issue?

I have the MC from costco and had this issue with Petro-Canada. We called them and they were aware of the issue. It's fixed now, this was ~5 yrs ago.

Odly enough the last time i had issue with my paypass was with my MC costco card at ... costco ! Had to issert the card but the next time i filled there it was working fine.

Interesting, i'll try the tap to pay again at the station I had to insert my card and take it from there...

That would mean something somewhere is noting down card numbers that have been approved in the past... not sure I like that part but oh well.
