Road bike thread

K, this has happened at least 3 times this year now. Riding along lakeshore (usually) at 30Kph+ with a bike path that appears/disappears as you go depending on section. I stick to road and have Varia radar and keep to the right as much as possible without risking car door impacts in areas where there's traffic etc (usual good etiquette). Tons of room to pass me safely 99% of the time.

BUT it's always two young guys in a car, every time it's two soft looking losers with the passenger just YELLING shit at me, pulling along side me and trying to intimidate me etc. I literally just laugh in their faces and consider dumping a bottle into their lap (I don't). Always 2 guys, always one trying to impress the other one with how "tough" they are. Laughing in their faces usually works but it's fucking annoying and ruins the ride. I feel like getting plates and making a phone call sometimes but it's just annoying... I know I know don't let people live in your head rent free etc. but I can't be the only one who's dealing with this scenario? I don't escalate in these situations because I'm wearing fucking shoes with cleats and it's 2 on 1 with me needing to keep thousands of dollars of bike from getting ripped off/wrecked... but one day I'm going to snap and not just laugh at them. I'm thinking about carrying spark plug fragments in my jersey pocket and just breaking their windshields lol.

Squirt some water at them.

Graisse tes quick release/thru axels

Not quite the same thing, but here's some things I did to solve a noisy drivetrain on a CAAD12 that stumped 3 good mechanics until one of them finally figured it out:

Symptom: unable to quiet drivetrain even though chain not rubbing anywhere it shouldn't

First step: normal stuff, new chain, tune up, tried a different set of jockey wheels (no progress)
Second step: Assume the cheap FSA cranks are flexing under torque, Swap out the BB30 set up for a WheelsMfg BB30 to Shimano adapter sleeve and put on an Ultegra crankset (some improvement but still noisy under load)
Third step: During mainteance of rear wheel hub notice dammage, replace wheelset completely (bike runs better than new noise all gone when drivetrain properly lubricated)

So two things that you woudn't normally look at for gremlins, changing the crankset and the wheels. If you have cheap cranks consider that they may be flexing under load. If your rear hub hasn't been looked at in a while consider having it serviced and if need be get new wheels if they're too far gone...

That's maybe the problem. I have zipp 11 to 10 spd conversion hub wheels.... I didnt grease anything since 2 years. I'm going out today. If the noise is still here, I'll take a look into this. Bearings are perfect, no noise, but I may need some grease between the zipp core and the wheel.
