honestly, France isnt a great market for cars. They're kind of hard to find.
Unless you're looking for a French car.

Just go to Germany yourself and bring back a car or two.. Its a pretty simple process. The price diff between small to large containers isnt much. There is no shortage of container lines either on TATL routes either. Have it shipped right to Montreal

CBSA might hit you up with a "decontamination" fee.. Make sure the car is clean.. No chunks of dirt

Exactly!
Pretty rare import though.S1 Elise are pretty meh cars. Lousy engine and gearbox then you still have to order parts from the UK... Then you have to deal with the galvanic corrosion problems with suspension mounts as I mentioned, fuel tank that rusts from the inside out for example.

You can import what you wish and don't need jackshit from the manufacture or shady dealer if its 15+ years old from DoM. You just need to pay fees at CBSA and get it plated here. For older buses and trucks its a tad complicated. I'm sure its just a matter of time before the 15 year rule is changed to 25 years.

As for Porsches, Ferraris etc. Those still command high prices across the pond. But for a run of the mill 3er or such you can get a car here and plated for 5k CDN

An E46 330d or e36 touring aren't rare cars and dont command huge prices even in Europe. Then you see adds here for imported cars asking 18k for a 325tds with 220k keep smoking that crack pipe

they will hit you with that fee because its something all exported cars have to have. a certificate of decontamination, which you have to pay for, you also have to pay to have it "block and braced" into the container, as well as the shipping expenses.
Its probably a 4-5k process alone.

I agree however that Germany is a much better market for cars. Much better than France, they're pretty anti car.

Its roughly 2500-3k CDN for a 40ft loaded Bremen or Hamburg to Montreal. You could prob get cheaper from Antwerp or Rotterdam. Container market is pretty shit now, lots of half empty ships floating around. The blocked and braced is nothing more than 4- 8 pieces of 2x4 or whatever screwed into the floor, car is driven into those slots and lashed down with ratchet straps. You can 4 fit cars into a 40ft if you wanted and got creative with building stands and stacked the cars. Some lines even have specific HC containers with lifts inside for 4 cars. We loaded up 4 Porsches for Export to China in one.

I'm not sure about RORO costs.

RORO is way cheaper, like half of a container's total.
As for the France vs Germany debate; it's all about what kind of car you are looking for. French cars, you're better of in France or Switzerland because it's the biggest market. In Germany, many used French cars end up like used American cars here, they are often totalled cars that were bought back.
Exotics are cheaper in North America right now, comparable Ferraris are about 1/3 cheaper here.
