Hyundai Konda Crushes Rivals and Continues to Enjoy Great Sales Numbers

Hyundai’s popular sub-compact SUV – the Kona – continues to do well as Canadians continue buying them in droves. For 2021, the Kona bests its nearest competitor by 68%. Hyundai sold 31,101 Konas compared to 18,479 Nissan Kicks sold.

The next best-selling compact SUV is the Kia Seltos which is built on the same platform and has the same powertrain as the Kona. The Seltos sold 14,436 units in 2021.

Nissan also sells the compact Qashqai which is a direct competitor to the Kona. 11,973 units were moved last year.

The Honda HR-V sold 11,616 units and the Mazda CX-30 had 11,407 sales. Toyota seems to have some work to do in order to make the C-HR competitive as it only sold 8176 units.

Hyundai’s strong warranty and competitive leasing rates are a strong reason why potential customers flock to the brand. Time will tell if the Kona can keep up this pace but so far all indicators point toward yes.
