The 1956 356A Carrera GS/GT 1500 Speedster is definitely one of the more desirable body styles the 356A came in, and sticking to the point of it having good options that pile on the price, the car you see here is expected to fetch up to $1,5 million.
If you then break it up into pieces and analyze the significance of each individually, you start to see the story making a bit more sense. The most telling part of its name is the GS slash GT which means it’s neither of the two, being a GS at heart but with elements that previewed the higher performance GT that came after it.
It has unique original wheels too, and a full 1992 restoration by a German collector - Hans Reutter “who oversaw an exacting restoration that prepared the car for enjoyable touring.” The car was also lightly upgraded too, with better tires (Michelin), a fancier louvered engine cover, Koni Classic adjustable dampers and a camber compensator for the rear suspension borrowed from the 356 B Super 90, to name only a handful.
Very cool car, perfect for touring the club events and vintage rally scenes – it would probably make a really nice Mille Miglia car.
