5000$ 10 days vacation for 2 where do you go ?

Cruise in Europe.
You can go for like 8-10 day cruise, and then spend another few days in the port of the city you took the cruise.
You can get the best of both worlds. During the day, you visit the city, and at night, not stress, relax in the boat with great entertainment.
On sea days, you can just get tanned and enjoy the sun. :)

This one looks nice (greek island cruise, taken from Barcelona, 18-30 september). It's inside room, but if your budget allows, you could upgrade for an ocean view/balcony.

The Rugby World Cup runs throughout England this October. Even if you're not a fan of the sport, being in the country that invented the sport, it would be something special to attend.

that's exactly what i was looking at the 7 day cruise from venice

One thing about cruises, the longer the cruise the older the clientele

autre chose, Croisiere = trappe a touriste.

That shit is everywhere where tourists go, I never got screwed and do my own excursions most of the time.

For that time of the year, a Greek Islands cruise is probably one of the best destinations if you're looking for a bit of everything.

I'd avoid the Caribbean simply because it's hurricane season and well....you never know. You're not on a very tight budget so why take the chance.

Not really, depends on the reputation of the cruise. Most of the European cruises are at least 7-10 days...
Usually, the cheaper cruises (Carnival, Norwigean) attract a younger clientele, and more expensive cruises tend to attract older people (Regent Seven Seas, SIlver Star, Princess).

Why ?

Do you need to visit the WHOLE country in order to go somewhere ? 10 days won't be enough anywhere...

Get up early, beat the crowds to get off the boat, get the hell out of the port, but most importantly, know what you wanna do at the port of call you are docking at!
Get a couple travel guides (Lonely Planet, Rough Guide...) & research online, then you know what you wanna see... For carribean cruises, hire a local for the day & tour the hell out of the place. For Europe, most the time you can rely on public transport. Doing it yourself for excursions is the way to go!

Also, NCL does an amazing Hawaiian cruise where you can see 4 islands over 7 days (Pride of America); rent a car on each island & you can easily steer free of the so-called tourist traps & you can check out Honolulu before or after the cruise for a couple of days...

We put a group together with some of the people at our dining table, got off the boat, negotiated with a local guy that had a little van, toured the whole island for like 25$-30$/couple.

Some of the excursions offered on ships are cool but all of their excursions are overpriced!
