Aftermarket Android 4.4 units, anyone have one?

I was going to start working on a custom Nexus 7 install for my Jetta when I stumbled on Chinese Android 4.4 head units. They seem to have good fit and finish, and an incredible amount of options and tech, and sizes (7" screen, 8" screen or full size) and are available from various companies (probably all built at the same factory) and for alot of makes and models. I figured the models for different vehicles brands probably function in a similar way, so if you have one in your Mazda or Honda I want a review!

Now the issue is that I can't find too many reviews about these, the few that I find arent too in-depth. Theres a bunch of demos of those radios set up on a table with a chinese guy running through all the options, but how are they installed. Interference? Any problems with steering wheel buttons? How is the boot up time? Mic quality, sound quality and radio reception? If anyone has used one of these for a while I'd appreciate some input!

Un review pour toi et au final le gars a eu beaucoup de problème et a finit par installer un Pionner.

Interesting. Looks like most of the issues were Mazda related, I'm doing research on adaptability with VW's and it looks like there are no can-bus issues and everything works (mfd, steering wheel buttons, etc).

So basically looking for info on mic/quality/radio reception/Bluetooth sound quality/reliability and boot time. Boot time seems to be about 20 seconds, I wonder if this is long enough to get tiring in the long term...

Chinese product and cars more than ofter mean that you will have a shitty product.

Check pioneer app radio, they have/will have one for android. The one with carplay is really neat and you know it's not gonna fall apart.

They have this one compatible with android and apple http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POCEN/Car/AppRadio

Youre right I should probably get a pioneer radio, I just hate how they look in VW's. My buddy has an MK5 GLI with an expensive Pioneer or Kenwood nav unit and it really looks cheesy imo. :(

I'm probably going to regret getting something Chinese. The Chinese units aren't cheap either, probably going to run 600-700$...

Fit of double din units, not very nice:

I know it's not pretty. I saw some people cut some carbon fiber vinyl the shape of the old radio and stick it on top of the trim.

1. Overheating
2. Takes to long to boot
3. Crashes
4. Navigation issues

Honestly, I wouldn't do any of these, especially considering prices of the Nexus 7. I'd go with a Dynavin. Their unites look pretty OEM with more functionality. I agree with you, all the adapting plates to fit an aftermarket HU makes it look cheap.

I didn't check for this exact unit, but in my car, it all appears on the cars screen. When I hit next, it changes tracks without me having to touch the phone and it displays what track plays.

i have the parrot asteroid smart in my touareg. not android 4.4 but a very nice unit that you can do many things with
