Dave Lauzier was one of the first people in Quebec to build a front-wheel drive drag car. His 350 horsepower Mazda MX-3 Precidia was made famous by an article in the March 1998 issue of Sport Compact Car magazine. Here is a snippet:

The MX-3 was powered by a 1.8 Litre 24 Valve V6 when Dave purchased it, but that didn’t do. The current engine block of this MX-3 is from a Protege GT, which was wrecked at 5000 miles. Since the block of the Protege GT is very similar to the 323 GTR engine, Dave ordered the remainder of the parts he needed from Rod Millen and built his own custom GTR engine.

A GTR exhaust manifold and Turbo were bolted on. Exhaust gas exited via a 3 inch custom made exhaust with a Dynomax Super-Turbo muffler. Intercoolers were also installed, being borrowed from the 323 GTR. A Centerforce dual-friction disc clutch was installed, and the Protege GT tranny. With 550cc fuel injectors and an MSD inline fuel pump delivering fuel to the combustion chambers, some heavy spark was needed. A Crane HI-6 ignition amplifier was installed. Add a nitrous system with a 40-shot and you can bet this MX-3 will be pulling across the whole RPM band.

With these modifications, the MX-3 ran the quarter mile with a time of 12.80 seconds @116 mph. Dave later put the car on a Dyno, and has since tuned the car to an amazing 350.3 H.P on 18 psi of boost pressure. What a beast!!

After that car, everyone that drove an MX3 V6 thought they were the fastest shit around... till they realized it was the smallest V6 ever made lol

Then they would swap in the 2.5L KLZE and get "ok" performances considering what you'd get in those years.

I had an MX-3 for several years in the early 2000's, it was a fun car..nothing to write home about compared to today's cars but it was a neat little hot hatch for the 90's and early 2000's. They are rare as fuck now, most of them were beaten to hell or simply rusted away.

They sold very poorly in the USA and most of the Canadian sales were in Quebec. I think Quebec was one of the only places in N/A where you would see soo many.

Back in the days...tout le monde se rendait chez wal-mart faire développer leurs photos... vive les imprimantes avec numériseurs.

it ran 11.1@139 last time i ran it before selling it ! i just heard like a month a ago the current owner of the shell had it crushed at the junkyard like a year ago as he didnt have interest anymoe for it. :(

I was just saying to one of my friends the other day how we don't see many of these anymore

That BP was a good little engine

Fucked up... :(

The real fucked up part is how many high 12s cars and low 13s cars you can buy now from the factory.

I love the "I remember" game. I remember Dave street racing his 1988 323gtx with a slipping clutch.
