I was just wondering if anyone on the board here went to the Formula SAE at Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit this past week. I was there with the Concordia team. I know McGill, ETS, Polytechnique and Chicoutimi were there. There was a total of 140 universities from North America mostly. If you were there let me know what you thought.

here's some pics from last year:

Our team did pretty good considering that we were a little underpowered. I had a lot of fun though.

How did you guys fare? Cornell won again, right?

McGill was running with our safety belts...at least one part of our car has been to competition :D

We were supposed to go as observers, but it fell squarely into our final exam week :( (cégep, remember) Of course that would be totally irrelevant if our car was ready ;) but failing most classes probably wasn't worth it, just to go and take pics.

I'm not sure of the final results because they weren't posted yet, but Cornell was definitely up there if they didn't win. We came first in the cost report (cheapest car built). Our car was totally different than everyone elses. We used sliders instead of A-arms CVT instead of a transmission and we had the smallest tires on the track. We were the talk of the event though and will have an article in Racecar Engineer. :D

Really? WTG guys!

Yeah, CVTs probably are the way of the future (both for FSAE and all cars), we just don't have the guts to take our trusty old six-speed out.

What do you mean by "sliders"? Like dampers?

Pretty cool integration idea...so that's your only wheel support structure (together with anti-roll bar I guess) ? How's stiffness compared to a standard configuration?

Wouldn't have thought of it for an FSAE application (that's why I'm the engine guy I suppose  )

I know I'm nosy, we're still at a heavy learning stage...and don't worry our A-arms are already set ;)
