It's not just a question of being segregated, it's the lack of roads and infastructure. QUEBEC is HUGE. We need to develop East and West words. Montreal is a dying city. Go on avenue 55, the former industrial sector, it's all empty, there is nothing left. What we need to rebuild this city. Cut government size to almost nothing, have a couple hard years and rebuild. There is no way else of doing it.

never gonna happen though

How bout some of yo go to San Jose when they close the San Mateo bridge regularly for maintenance? Or how about, try crossing the bay bridge from Oakland to San Francisco during rush hour, or actually any time of the day for that matter...

Traffic sucks in any big city, thank god there's journalists out there who have nothing better to do than remind us that once in a while our traffic slows us down one minute more than another big city to make people who are so depressed with their lives hate where they live even more, and take comfort that somewhere else, things are better, when really they aren't.

I'll also have to remind you whiners of the exact wording of that article, which pretty much states that it takes 57% more time to get to work when there's traffic as opposed to when the traffic is fluid. I don't know what's worse, the person who wrote that article or the people cant catch onto shoddy journalism and use it to make themselves and others around them feel so shitty about where they live.

Although I do agree that our road infrastructure is absolutely embarrassing compared to the USA, I feel some of you may occasionally have to be reminded that we don't live in Ethiopia. We have shitty weather and most urban centers in the USA that we yearn to be like have a bigger population than our entire province...

what are you talking about !

The city is booming all over the place ! Have you seen all these condo towers they are building ? It's because people are getting richer by the increase amount of business going on on the island.

Don't tell me you haven't seen that !

55th avenue is far from empty...

The weather is the biggest crock of shit excuse in the world. There are other cities that have the same weather as we do and their roads are in nearly perfect condition....The road network is slowly improving though... If our roads/bridges etc were replaced 25 years ago when they were due, everything has a lifespan. We wouldn't be sitting in random traffic all the time.

IMO once the 30 opens it will really really help with the amount of trucks that come through the city. Hopefully transportation warehouses will move office island as well.

Weather is one thing that does impact traffic, but in the end, if all the $/%/$/ drivers would follow their lane, not cut traffic through highway entries (to gain a $/"/$""$/ 3-4 cars distance) and not jampack access ramps by merging at the last second, blocking 3 whole freaking lanes instead of only one, our life would be better.

Freaking zoo.

I wouldn't say that people are getting richer, it's just that they are getting in more debt and buying condos that stretch them out too thin. Also I think most of the condos downtown are being purchased by outsiders and not locals, whether they see it as an investment or just a place to have their kids live while they are in school here.

As for the construction that causes all this congestion in the city, I think the main problem is that it takes so long for construction projects to finish because there is no urgency to finish anything. This whole city is like a bunch of orange cones.

Most of these condos are bought by speculators or by people who are over extending themselves because of cheap credit.

Mostly speculators that then get stuck with a ton of units in the building(s).... The condo market will crash hard.

It may happen if the quebec gov't falls into Greece style bankruptcy and our current political parties get liquidated. Until then I'm not holding my breath.
