ok, so i'll just mess with your brain a little bit.. lol
this is a Mk1.. the only Mk1 that was produced until 1993; the Cabrio. Although it was called a golf, this is a Mk1 chasis..

as for parts, they're pretty easy to find.. there's Camille on the south shore I beleive and there's Sylvain Volks in Laval.. Most parts are still available at the dealers anyways since this car was produced up until 1993...
You can find all the parts you need on the net off of various websites (i'll let others lst the possible sites) . as for the work, any mechanic can do all the work on'em since it's basically the same engine and mechanic as a 1980 (ya, it's that simple!) anyways, most of the work if not all can be done by your GF.. (ya!! it's THAT easy!!
