Now what?

Okay soo im going to make this short and not mention any names because i dont think that is the right thing to do at this moment just yet.

I bought a engine from a known garage in montreal. The employee of this garage assured me everything is fine and it a drop in with no problems. I asked many questions about the engine, made a offer and picked it up. A week later the car is running.

Anyways long story short ive been having problems with low coolant on the engine and confirmed today that the head gasket is the problem.

Is there anything i can do to get compensation or something like that from the employee of the shop that sold me the engine? The only paper i have is a contract saying that they sold me the engine(no conditions mentioned)

I tried contacting the seller but he told me that he could only try to diagnose the problem and tell me whats wrong(which i already know) he told me that he doesn't want to warranty anything or help me anyways afterwards.

Is there anything i can do? I know the post isn't very specific but i don't want to give the place a bad name at the moment as i believe that isn't the right thing to do right now since ive been there a couple times before and didn't have issues.


He is supposed to get back to me with a day i can stop by for them to confirm the issue..but if he isnt going to help me somehow afterwards im getting it done somewhere else.

Ive only driven the engine for a couple days and its not like i was driving it for a long time before this happened. I mentioned the low coolant problem as soon as i started driving it as well..so its not like i damaged it myself either since i spoke to him about it as soon as it was being driven.


Anyone have any idea what i should do?

You noticed low coolant as soon as you started driving ? Like just after you swapped the engine ? I don't know but how much coolant does you car burn to be low on coolant just after you swapped the engine lol

Did you put enough coolant? Did you air out the coolant correctly?

Yes i got i checked by a trusted a specialist for my type of engine that is very well known and it just confirmed everything. Plus i smell exhaust in my coolant.

Anyways thats not the point. I want to find out what would be my next step lets say i get the shop to check my engine and they tell me its the head gasket themselves.

Changer les gaskets quand le moteur est encore sur la palette c'est tu si dur?


J'comprend ta frustration mais c'est un moteur usagé après tout.

Tu pense tu je le savais le gasket de tete etait fini? Jaurai meme pas acheter le moteur en premier lieu. Et sa se change pas quand le moteur est sur unepalette. Oui cest une grosse job va falloir sortir la tete . la faire veriefier pour des craques la faire planer et reinstaller. Cest pas une petite job. Jai deja payer asser cher pour le moteur.

Premièrement j'irais le voir et je discuterait avec lui encore. C'est le plus simple.
Si ca donne rien Envoie une mise en demeure. Après si ça donne tjrs rien. Petite créance...
Oui jattend quil me dise cest quand je peu passer pour quil constate par lui memem le gasket est fini. Je vais voir ce quil dit apres.

As-tu une facture avec un prix raisonnable dessus au moins?
Pour le moteur que jai acheter jai un recu de vente avec le prix que jai payer.

Pour les reparations jai eu un estimer. Je pourrai demander le faire imprimer aussi si jamais jai de besoin. La place ou jai ete faire verifier sa est un gars tres bien connu pour ce type de moteur et ses prix sont toujours vraiment pas cher. Donc oui cest resonable.

You really got to leak-down and compression test those damn things before installing them.
 
Soumission pour les réparation.
Si le garage qui ta vendu le moteur refuse de réparer.
Fait réparer à tes frais et ensuite mise en demeure pour le montant de la réparation.
S'il ne paye pas. Petites créances.

Yes well once again i wasnt expecting this coming from a known shop like this..if i was buying a imported engine i would understand. But this engine was in the shops employees car before...

well now you know the reason it was removed! Sometimes I like selling my engine for fun ;)
